If I contribute to Undefended Heart, how will my money be spent?
Your dollars will be used toward program delivery and general operating costs.

Are the people listed on your program leadership page paid staff?  What about the Board?
  • The people leading programs are paid only when they teach programs through Undefended Heart.  Our program leaders are independently contracted which means they are paid for teaching within programs that are contracted and delivered.  Our program leaders have additional professional responsibilities apart from our organization.  They work part-time with Undefended Heart, as programs are scheduled.  At this time, there are no salaried positions at Undefended Heart.
  • The members of our Board of Directors generously contribute their skills and time.

What do you mean, when you say my money will go toward "program delivery?"
Undefended Heart programs are offered on a sliding fee scale, which means people pay according to their means. When an organization or individual has the ability to pay in full, Undefended Heart designs and delivers programs according to their interests and needs, and the organization or individual pays for the program.  We also deliver our core programs to underserved populations that do not have resources to pay in full for our training (e.g., schools in low income communities).  In addition, we offer scholarships to individuals who attend classes or trainings, but who do not have the resources to pay costs in full.  Sometimes an organization or individual's means do not cover the costs of program delivery.  Your generous contribution will help make up that difference, allowing us to work with people from all walks of life.

How do I know that your organization is well run?  Who oversees the organization?
Our Executive Director, Barbara Veale Smith, is supervised by the Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors of Undefended Heart has the final say about the organization's direction and activities.  The members of the board are highly respected professionals with non-profit management experience, and either work in education or successfully operate businesses of their own in the areas of health and finance.  They are committed to ensuring that this organization is run and managed using best practices of non-profit organizations.  You can read their bios here.
